We want you to enjoy our products in a safe way. Safety information is detailed on all of our products, but here is a list of our tips to safely burning candles and melts.
1) Never leave a burning candle unattended. If you, for any reason, leave a room that has a burning candle in it, even just for a few minutes, ensure you extinguish all candles first. Before leaving the room, make sure your candle is completely out and there is no glow coming from the wick ember. Do not touch or move the candle until it has completely cooled.
2) Once there is only 10mm of wax left in the vessel, discard the candle and do not burn any further.
3) Always keep candles 10cm apart from each other.
4) Always ensure you burn candles on a heatproof surface.
5) If a flame starts to flicker, becomes high or moves with a draft, extinguish the flame immediately. Before re-lighting, let the candle cool and trim the wick to 5mm.
6) Never burn a candle on or near anything that is flammable.
7) Keep burning candles away from all furniture, textiles, paper, flammable homewares etc.
8) Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.
9) Do not place lit candles where they can be knocked over by anyone.
10) When extinguishing a candle, use a snuffer, as it’s the safest way to prevent hot wax from splattering. Never use water to extinguish a candle, this can cause the hot wax to splatter and could break a glass container.
All of our products are 100% vegan and sustainably sourced.
Soy wax is a 100% natural wax that is derived from soybeans. Soy wax is, in our opinion, the best for a number of reasons.
1) It burns slower than traditional paraffin wax, meaning your candle lasts longer. It is naturally-sourced and non-toxic, unlike paraffin which has an array of harmful qualities and by-products when burnt.
2) Soy wax holds fragrance better than paraffin, giving off a stronger and longer throw (scent).
3) Whilst all burning emits some soot, soy produces a very minimal amount.
4) The traditionally-used wax in candles is paraffin, which is produced from the oil purification process of coal, petrol or oil shale. Paraffin wax is effectively the waxy substance in crude oil. Definitely not eco, and definitely not something we would ever use.
So, overall, soy is the most environmentally-friendly wax , the most natural, the least toxic, holds the most lasting fragrance and isn't full of nasties!
We recommend the following:
1) Always light your candle in a well-ventilated space. Keep the flame away from drafts of any kind, as this can cause sooting (black marks).
2) Each time you light the candle, ensure that the wax melts all the way to the edge of the vessel, otherwise something called tunnelling will occur. If wax isn't melted all the way to the edge, you will find that the rest of the candle will burn unevenly and you will not get as much from your candle.
3) Do not burn your candle for more than four hours, as this can cause the wick to move. If the wick moves and the flame burns close to the vessel, you must extinguish the flame to avoid the vessel breaking.
4) When only 10mm of wax remains at the bottom, do not burn any further. Time to treat yourself to a new one! We recommend carefully scooping out the remaining wax when solid, and reusing the vessel for something else. Storage, a little plant, whatever you wish! The vessels can also be widely recycled with household recycling. Please check your local recycling rules to do this correctly.
5) Keep the wax pool clear at all times, as debris in the wax can sometimes make your candle burn faster than it should. If you see a flaming wick come close to the vessel wall, extinguish the flame and straighten the wick to prevent the vessel from cracking.
6) Keep the wick trimmed to 5mm at all times, to prevent smoking or sooting.
Please take a look at our section on 'Candle Safety' for a list of safety tips. All of our packaging details candle or melt care and safe use too, which we recommend buyers read carefully before product use.
We are always looking to add new lines and we regularly take our customers' feedback on board when adding new products. We have recently added wax melters to our shop, and we will be introducing diffusers later in the year. Stay tuned!
Our products are made from quality soy wax and pure essential oils.
